What You Need to Know for Friday
The TEDxCambridge team is excited for Friday! Here’s what you need to know to be fully prepared for the event!
We are watching the weather VERY closely on behalf of our Kendall Square by Twilight ticket holders in the Technology Square Courtyard. Right now, the forecast calls for partly cloudy conditions in the evening with a 10-20% chance of rain. Unless this forecast changes dramatically, we will keep things outdoors. If things change, we will notify guests via email.
2. BEFORE YOU LEAVE
Don’t forget your photo ID! Help us get you registered faster: please print your ticket ahead of time. You should have received an email on Wednesday (9/11) at 6pm from Eventbrite that included a button to Print Tickets. Please bring warm clothes, especially if you will be outside – temperatures are forecast to be in the low 60s once the rain stops. The ground may still be wet as well from the rain. Please plan your dress accordingly.
3. FOOD AND TIMING
Doors (or ropes, in the case of our outdoor venue) will open at 6pm. Food is not permitted inside the Broad Institute Auditorium. Food is permitted at the outdoor Technology Square Courtyard. Light hors d’oeuvres will be served at the Technology Square Atrium reception starting at approximately 8:45pm. There are a number of local restaurants such as Catalyst, Area Four, and West Bridge, where you can enjoy a light snack after work beofre TEDxCambridge. The event begins at 7pm, so please plan accordingly and give yourself enough time to be seated.
Taking the T? Take the MBTA Red Line to the Kendall MIT stop. Assuming the weather holds, head down Main Street away from the river towards Central Square. Both venues will be on the right side.
Driving? $5 validated parking is available in the Technology Square Parking Garage, located on Technology Square Drive across from Draper Labs. DO NOT PARK IN THE DRAPER LABS GARAGE! The entrance to the Technology Square Parking Garage, with validated parking, is located to the left of the Draper Labs garage entrance, and is marked with a parking sign that has a red background and white font. For GPS purposes, navigate to 300 Technology Square (where Catalyst Restaurant is), and then turn down Technology Square drive to find the garage on the left. Don’t lose your ticket, and don’t lose your TEDxCambridge badge, which will serve as your parking validation. More information, directions, and a map is available at the TEDxCambridge 2013 Event Details Page.
6. GETTING TO THE VENUES FROM THE PARKING GARAGE
Note your venue location above. Walking out of the parking garage, turn right and head toward Main Street. If your venue location is the Technology Square Courtyard, turn right on Main Street, and the Courtyard is just past Catalyst on the right. If your venue location is the Broad Institute Auditorium, turn left on Main Street and proceed past the tracks and across Galileo Galilei Way. The Broad Institute is on the left, just after the Whitehead Institute.
Even if you have your ticket printed, bring a legal photo ID, if you plan on enjoying alcoholic beverages at the cocktail reception afterwards. Your badge will get you into your venue for the talks, as well as into the cocktail reception that follows.
8. NO (+1) OR UNREGISTERED GUESTS
This is a SOLD OUT event and everyone must have already purchased a ticket to access the TEDxCambridge event venues. Every seat is sold and please be sure to arrive early enough to be comfortably seated by 7pm.
9. WI-FI AND SOCIAL MEDIA
Limited Wi-Fi will be available to attendees at all venues, however, we cannot make any guarantees about your Internet experience. Announcements will be made in advance with the details on how to access the public Wi-Fi for the event. We encourage attendees to share content from the event using the #TEDxC hashtag, but we also request that you be courteous of others’ privacy and respectful of the speakers on stage as you are engaging in social media.
10. THE TALKS
The talks will begin at 7pm. While we encourage everyone to share their excitement, thoughts, and other content from TEDxCambridge, photography and video recording of the presentations on stage is expressly prohibited. We will provide imagery of the speakers, and the videos of the talks will be made available as soon as we finish video post production.
