Psyche Loui is a neuroscientist studying music and the brain. She received her B.S. in Psychology and Music from Duke University and her Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of California at Berkeley, where she specialized in music perception and cognition. Dr. Loui is currently an Instructor in Neurology at the Harvard Medical School. She currently conducts research on music and neuroscience in the Music and Neuroimaging Laboratory at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School. Using behavioral and neuroimaging techniques, her research aims to find out how the human brain enables music. Ongoing studies address questions on the neural substrates of tone-deafness, the source of musical talent and creativity, and the mechanisms through which the human brain perceives, produces, and appreciates patterns of musical pitch.
